I rarely post about work, but Xero was named one of the 10 best application user interfaces of 2008 by Jakob Nielson.

From the article: “But Xero might be a more interesting example, simply because it targets the traditionally dry domain of accounting. Users compared this interaction to playing Tetris and described it as fun and addictive. Come on, making accounting fun? That’s an award-winning design.”

Elē the baby elephant necklace from Ponoko

Here’s my latest necklace using Ponoko. His name is Elē, and he’s a baby elephant. He’s an optimistic elephant as his trunk is always pointing up. He brings you luck.

I made him on commission from a colleague at work. I’m pretty happy with the way he turned out.

If you’d like to buy him, he comes in a variety of colors. You can go to the Ponoko website to buy it, or you can contact me through the comments here or by email.

You can buy him in any color Ponoko offers. If the color isn’t listed below, please contact me and tell me what color you would like.

Ponoko turtle tiki necklace

I present to you my latest Ponoko creation, the turtle tiki necklace:

Cool! You know you want one (it also makes a great keychain, if you don’t wear necklaces)!

I chose black and white for the colors, but you can choose any colors you’d like from the Ponoko materials catalogue.

Mention my blog in your email and the price for a two colored tiki is $20, instead of $30. A tiki with one color is $10 (any color), a tiki with two colors is $20 (solid colors only – no tints), and a tiki with three colors or tinted colors is $40.

My second table!

This is the second iteration of my table produced with Ponoko (here is my post about the first table).

The top of the table is now square, and the legs are wider. This version measures 37cm (about 14.5 inches) wide, 37cm deep, and 45cm (about 18 inches) high. As you can see the top sits just below a bed. The woods used are cherrywood and rimu (veneer MDF, 1cm thick).

You will be supporting me and my endeavors, and you will also be supporting Ponoko)! There are limited amount of tables I can produce as the services of Ponoko are not yet publicly available.

Two days ago I ordered glass for the top. I receive that next Wednesday. I’ll post photos of the finished table before I give it to Andy!

I’m a beta user for a new company in New Zealand called Ponoko, and using their services I designed and built a table:

It’s made from cherry wood and rimu, and it’s the first piece of furniture I’ve designed.
